My man Luke James is an upcoming artist that you need to hear. He needed some promo shots and a CD cover so we headed downtown to make it happen. Remember that I don’t just hope for the best….I plan my shoots.

This head shot would have been fine with a plain background but I wanted to do something a little extra. Notice how the open spaces in the wall go out in an angle and not just horizontally. It gives some depth to the image and a little personality. Remember to always consider your background when photographing a person. Don’t just put someone in front of your “background” just because you think it looks cool. You should be able to tell how the background enhances your image.

A wise man once said that there is nothing new under the sun and so it is with capturing people with the camera. Photographing the “decisive moment” is more about what to look for an anticipating what is going to happen anyway. While photographing RED at the local arena I noticed that the lead singer Michael had a tendency to stay on stage right and liked to jump around while guitarist Anthony Armstrong liked to jam on this rafter.  All I had to do was frame the shot (noticed I included drummer Joe Rickard since he was rocking the drums) and wait for the shot that was going to “spontaneously” happen.

When deciding to photograph people or pets remember that they rarely do something unusually. We are all creatures of habit. So the next time you photograph people or pets take a few moments to watch and listen. This was you can properly anticipate awesome photographs that make you look like a genius.

One of the musical staples in Genevieve’s life is Hello Dolly. I’ve never seen it and the two things that I know about it are that Louis Armstrong sung, Hello Dolly and that the first plugin you get with wordpress is one that teaches your it’s lyrics. I received a scholarship for music performance in percussion and with all the great musical education I received I never once appreciated it. Well, that’s a lie. I really enjoyed the broadway music from Titanic. But that was only because I was introduced to it during winter guard.

Well, I planed to work on a few things while Hello Dolly was going strong and believe it or not….I didn’t get any work done. I have mad respect for the choreographer and the dancers. It was quite impressive and it’s now stuck in my head. So should I be embarrassed that I enjoyed “Hello Dolly?”

I grew up on videos with MTV and such but I’ve never had the opportunity to see what it takes to make a video. Well, that all changed with a text asking me to photograph Third Day during the filming of their newest video of their hit song, Children of God. The location was a secret and it will be forever my secret awesome photographic location of pure awesomeness. I have to give the guys major props because it was a very very cold day. For some reason when we got up this morning my wife wanted me to listen to Kick Drum Heart. It’s a catchy tune and a band you’ll want to keep up with them (Avett Brothers). I think I liked it the best when she started dancing! Enjoy.
